Katherine Toumbourou

Katherine Toumbourou is an Australian-born and educated media editor and communications strategist. Among her proudest local achievements during her 20 years as a news editor (BA Journalism & Cinema Studies, RMIT University) was the successful editorial overhaul of the Cyprus Weekly newspaper. During this time, she also supervised the establishment of a historic and pioneering collaboration between a Turkish-Cypriot (Havadis) and Greek-Cypriot (Cyprus Weekly) news outlet – the first such endeavour in the island’s history. For ten years, she was also the Deputy Editor of the Cyprus Mail newspaper. Katherine delights in entrepreneurial projects; from 2011-2013 she took her team around the global start-up circuit with a plan to remonetise the news industry using cryptocurrencies and became an accredited, professional offline matchmaker. In recent years, she has focused her talents on boutique media projects, working as a consulting editor for a major British digital communications company, whose clients included the BBC’s Channel 4 and Film4. Katherine is currently overseeing the operation of an award-winning serviced apartment in downtown Nicosia and working as a policy document editor for an international aid organisation. Her favourite part of any job is creating maximum-effect messages for the right audiences.
